Who we are and what this covers
Propagate is a free iOS app made by Softwear Technologies, Inc. ("we", "us"). It gives injured runners AI-powered rehab coaching: you chat with an AI coach, it identifies a likely injury, assigns exercise tracks, tracks your daily completion, and builds a run plan around the runs you actually do.
This policy covers the Propagate iOS app and the backend services that power it. Questions? Email ryan@propagateform.com.
What we collect
Account information. Propagate requires sign-in with Apple or Google (through Firebase Authentication). When you sign in we receive your name, your email address, and a persistent account identifier (a Firebase user ID).
Coach conversations. The full transcript of your chats with the AI coach, including anything you tell it about your injury, pain, and symptoms.
Your rehab plan and profile. Your goal, the coach's assessment of your likely injury, and the coach's notes about you.
Daily exercise records. Which exercises you completed each day, including outcomes such as "Too Painful."
Run data. With your permission, Propagate reads your running workouts from Apple Health (HealthKit): the date, distance, duration, and pace of each run. When you connect Apple Health, the app imports up to one year of past runs and then keeps importing new ones. We read only workouts of type running and their distance, and we never write anything to Apple Health. You can also enter runs by hand; those are stored the same way.
Because Propagate is about injuries and pain, much of this is health and fitness information linked to your identity. We treat it accordingly — see "Health information" below.
How we use your data
We use your data for exactly one purpose: making the app work for you.
- Your chat messages, a summary of your profile, and a summary of your past year of runs are sent to the AI so the coach can respond and plan your running.
- Your plan and daily records are stored so the app can show your progress and adjust your exercises.
- Your run data, whether read from Apple Health or entered by hand, is stored so the app can show your running history and build your run plan around the runs you actually did.
- Your account information is used to sign you in and keep your data tied to your account.
Where your data lives
Your data is stored in two places:
- On your device, in the app's local files.
- In Google Firebase Firestore (Google Cloud), in a record tied to your account ID, so your plan, runs, and history survive reinstalls and device changes.
AI processing and third parties
We share your data with two service providers, and only so the app can function:
Google Firebase / Google Cloud. Provides sign-in (Firebase Authentication), cloud data storage (Firestore), and the backend functions that relay your messages to the AI.
Anthropic PBC. The AI coach is powered by Claude, Anthropic's AI model. When you chat with the coach, your messages, a summary of your rehab profile, and a summary of your past year of runs (including runs imported from Apple Health) are sent through our backend (Google Cloud Functions) to Anthropic's API so the coach can plan around your real mileage. The API key is held on our servers, never on your device. Anthropic processes this data under its standard commercial API terms: your data is not used to train Anthropic's models, is retained briefly for trust and safety purposes, and is then deleted.
The app tells you this up front: an in-app disclosure explains that the coach is an AI, that your messages are processed by Claude (Anthropic) and stored in your Propagate account, that AI can make mistakes, and that it is not medical advice.
Apple Health data. Data we read from HealthKit is used only to provide the features described in this policy. In line with Apple's HealthKit guidelines, we never use it for advertising or marketing, we never sell it, and we never share it with any third party other than the two providers named above.
We do not share your data with anyone else.
Health information notice
Propagate handles information about your injuries, pain, and symptoms, but Propagate is not medical advice and we are not a healthcare provider:
- We are not a covered healthcare provider, and Propagate is not a medical device.
- Using Propagate does not create a provider–patient relationship.
- The coach's suggestions are general informational content, not professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
If you have severe pain, numbness, or a suspected fracture, consult a clinician. In an emergency, call 911.
How long we keep your data
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your data is promptly deleted.
Deleting your data and your rights
You can delete your account at any time, directly in the app: open the More tab and tap Delete Account. This:
- removes your cloud data (chats, plan, records, runs),
- deletes the Propagate sign-in account itself, and
- clears the app's local files on your device.
You can also stop Propagate from reading Apple Health at any time: open iOS Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices > Propagate and turn off the permission. Runs already imported stay in your Propagate account until you delete them in the app or delete your account.
No email required, no waiting on support. If you have questions or want to exercise other privacy rights available to you under your local law (such as access or correction), email ryan@propagateform.com.
Security
- All communication between the app, our backend, and our providers uses HTTPS encryption.
- Per-user Firestore security rules ensure only your signed-in account can read your data.
- The AI provider API key is held server-side and is never present on your device.
No system is perfectly secure, but we limit what we collect to what the app needs to function.
Children
Propagate is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app's App Store age rating is 12+. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
International transfers
Your data is processed in the United States, on Google Cloud and Anthropic infrastructure located in the US. If you use Propagate from outside the US, your data will be transferred to and processed in the US.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
